The vehicles in the Jeep 4xe lineup give you rugged four-wheel drive capability and a plug-in electric hybrid engine. There are two models that offer this unique powertrain, the Wrangler 4xe and the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Traditional hybrids only offer one driving mode, but 4xe vehicles provide three options–Jeep 4xe Hybrid mode, Electric mode, and eSave mode–for maximum efficiency on the roads of Stamford and beyond. Discover how these modes work and their benefits in this guide from Garavel CJDR, your go-to Jeep resource in Norwalk.
The default driving setting on all 4xe vehicles, Jeep 4xe Hybrid mode runs on both gas and electric power, giving you the best of both worlds. When electric power runs out, the driving mode automatically switches from Hybrid mode to eSave mode, so you don’t need to be concerned about range anxiety. Jeep 4xe Hybrid mode offers the best fuel economy of the three settings and can achieve as much as 49 miles per gallon/kilowatt on all your Greenwich and Bridgeport drives.
As its name suggests, Electric mode powers your driving with the electric battery in your 4xe vehicle. 4xe models can run solely on electric power so long as there is a one-percent minimum battery charge. In Electric mode, Jeep 4xe vehicles have a range of up to 21 miles.
When you drive in Jeep 4xe eSave mode, the majority of your power comes from the 2.0L gasoline-powered engine. If power demand is low, eSave mode shuts the engine off and saves the battery charge for later use. You can also switch to Jeep 4xe eSave mode if you want to preserve power for a later drive without having to plug in and charge your vehicle. With eSave mode engaged, you can expect a 20 mpg fuel economy.
While not a driving setting like Jeep 4xe Hybrid or any of the other modes discussed here, Regenerative Braking charges your vehicle’s electric battery when you decelerate or brake. As a result, the battery regains a bit of power each time, and this can save you from having to stop to charge the battery. Keep in mind that Regenerative Braking is always engaged unless you shut it off yourself.
